+311 So in Texas, the government is trying to include Christian prayer in veteran's funerals even if the family doesn't want it. Wow, amirite?

It's Texas, I'm not surprised...

So... what about the Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Atheist, etc, families who want to bury their deceased in a way according to their beliefs? Someone who SERVED for the country and deserves to decency to be buried they way his/her family sees fit? (Or as he/she requested?) Do they really think it's okay to deprive them of that respect? What the fuck happened to freedom of religion? I mean Christ, that's what America was BUILT on.

did you mean to say Christ as a pun?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha, no, I was using it as an exclamation. I didn't even realize when I was writing it. XD That's quite funny.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Alright I was kinda wrong, the government isn't doing it. Some military and Christian groups are doing it, and Texas government officials are supporting them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's still pretty terribad. But it isn't that surprising for the South.

This somehow reminds me of an article I read about some nutbag who wanted to ban the term "brainstorming" because it's offensive to epileptics. People come up with the stupidest rules....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah my teacher was calling it "brain vomiting" because brainstorming was supposedly offensive.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Brain vomiting?" Not only is that disgusting, it's probably offensive to bulimic people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you really surprised though? Around 70% of people in the U.S. are Christian. Some of them are bound to be pushy. Pray for people in private, don't force them to have a prayer. It's intruding upon their rights. Religion is a private, personal, important thing. I'm really not surprised.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not terribly surprised. This IS coming from the state that doesn't include Thomas Jefferson in their history textbooks just because he was a deist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's not why he's not in the textbooks. he's not in the textbooks because he thoroughly and deeply believed in the separation of church and state. most of the founding fathers were diests, but they're still in the textbooks. most people (the tea party, for example) have the common misconception that ALL of the founding fathers were active and dedicated christians. buuut that's not really true. ben franklin of all people was an atheist.

haha i definitely didn't mean to rant for so long... but that's what happens when you take AP US history. oh and also: i'm not actually sure if the texans took TJ out of the textbooks, they might have just talked about doing it. but i know my comment above is why they thought about it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No he's in the textbooks... I took AP US history in Texas last year...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's okay, I have a tendency to ramble on as well. APUS was one of my favorite classes last year. My teacher was the one who told me that that's why TJ wasn't in Texas textbooks, but I guess he was wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So was George Washington. Surely he's in their books.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm Christian and even I think it's wrong. Other religions deserve just as much respect as Christianity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those people are CUNTS. Let the families decide how they would like their loved ones buried.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow... those people need to be hit in the face with a chicken

"So, this brave Muslim soldier fought for the freedom of our country? Well...we're forcing Christian prayer at his funeral. He doesn't get the freedoms that he died for. Sorry."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I just moved to Texas last week and I found out they have their own pledge...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

jesus where are people getting the idea that Thomas Jefferson isn't in Texas textbooks. I live in Texas and we spend a really long time talking about him, and reading about him...?
