If a dog attacks a human it is likely to do it again. It won't understand that it's a bad thing and can become a danger around people. While a person can understand what they did was wrong and repent.

Dogs understand that their actions are bad if they are punished, or good if they are rewarded. That's the whole premise of dog training. And I said "even with good reason." If a dog attacks a random person for no reason, okay, fine. But if the dog attacks someone to defend their master, they shouldn't be killed.
