Well I don't know anything about other democracies, but it might help the US if we had the option to vote for anyone other than the two main parties. Other parties exist, but they aren't a viable option. They aren't part of a single debate and they aren't covered whatsoever by media.

The reason we run on a two party system is so they party that wins will (most likely) have a majority. If we had five parties (for example) you could win with 21% of the vote.

Actually a person could win with less than 20% of the popular vote because of the electoral college system. Besides its not really winning by a majority if people only vote for you because you're the only option

Politics in the UK is very different from the US because in the UK, people vote for a party to place members in a parliament which is like the combination of the legislative and executive branches in the US. The British Parliament is actually quite amusing to watch; once you watch them do their job, you will know why! :D
