+106 The government makes rich people seem like demons, even though many of them worked hard to get rich, while all of their friends were either partying or spending all their money on drugs. and now, they make them seem like evil greedy people who need more taxes, even though the top 10% of people pay 65% of the taxes, and the bottom 50% pays 4%. amirite?

LOL! Who brainwashed you? Rich people have many workers who barely make a living while they collect the money. Why do you think they like immigrant workers? Poor people may pay less taxes up front but they don't have all the tax deductions to bring their tax levels down. They are afraid to pay taxes to our armed forces or roads because they don't want to pay their fair share. What would you rather have, 60 percent of a million dollars or 70 percent of 20,000 dollars? The government is made up of rich people who make laws so rich people don't have to give up their money.

look i'm not rich at all..... in fact, i'm probably near that bottom 50% so i'm not some rich person going on a rant. by the way, where is your fact supporting what you just told me? the basic income tax for a rich person is over a third. in fact, all bushes aledged tax reductions for the rich did was bring it down to about 30%. "poor people" as you call them don't really have to pay nearly as a high as a percent.

In my measly paycheck and what I hear and read. I pay about 35 percent in taxes plus whatever they squeeze out of state purchases. If I bought an SUV I can't deduct it on my income tax but becuase someone has a business they get to write it off. I want to buy an alternative fuel vehichle but it's too expensive but anyone who does can have a tax deduction. I can barely make a living and can't afford a 401k as many people can't but the rich can contribute to it and get a tax break. I would like to refinance at a lower rate but I don't borrow enough to get the lowest interst rate. I would like to spend money on my credit card and get points for using it with a low interest rate but because I don't make enough money I can't have one of those cards. There are a lot of tax and money breaks for rich people. Try doing a tax return and see all the breaks they get.

You go guy/ girl! I agree completely. The government is made of rich people, so why would they make themselves look evil? Also, to the poster: if you think that tax loopholes of the rich are made up, then just look up the yacht tax loophole. I think it will be pretty obvious then.

For the rich, not of. Sorry about that.

Almost anyone would do the same if they were rich. Don't play the victim.

How many have made it through unethical business practices? Here's a nice book for you to read: http://www.amazon.com/Get-Rich-Cheating-Crooked-Street/dp/006168614X THEN come back and we can talk about this.... Oh and here's a good one that isn't in the book: Have some rich buddies with big businesses or corporations? Have them give you large loans at 0% interest that show up in your credit report, don't touch the money and then pay them back! They can put it in their books as a loss and then you pay it back later. Instant good credit for you, and less taxes for them! WIN WIN. Now here is my stance on this issue so you don't think I'm being biased: http://www.amirite.net/post58314 But trying to make them look like saints is stretching it. Here is some current headlines: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/16/goldman-sachs-fraud-expla_n_540938.html#s81859 Here's a nice documentary if the book doesn't convince you enough: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/tax/view/

My friend's dad makes $500k a year. But, we live in New York and the taxes are skyrocketing. Taxes alone leave her with $250k, and then there are bills for cars, appliances, insurance, her and her 3 brothers, AND she's going to college soon. She's scraping up money to attend college. She doesn't wear expensive clothes like Abercrombie, and her house is pretty modest. Not ALL high salary people are rich. Andrew Carnegie. He had a few dollars when he came here. He spent time learning and working his way up, and became one of the richest men of his time period. People DO work hard and don't deserve to have all of their money ripped from them. I agree with this post.

Wow! Let's get a collection going. I can't imagine trying to live off of 250k a year. Poor things. I guess community college is too good for them. Maybe they could hire cheaper immigrant workers to take some of the load off. Poor dears. Yeah most people do work hard but it's not the rich. That's why they have cheap labor. The rich learn how to take advantage of people. Why do we need Wall Street? To tell us the economy is good? The unemployment rate tells us that. Stock sold to someone who deosn't work for a company and they get rich while the worker gets laid off should tell you something.

You know, I'll bet since the beginning of time an hour hasn't changed much. One hour of work today is just as long as an hour worked 1,000 years ago. So you are saying a person who works in a factory to help make a lazy man rich deserves to be underpaid and less priveledged?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll bet they get a lot of the tax back with deductions. Deductions people who make less than 30k get back. And I'm willing to bet they have a nice retirement and a home free and clear when they do retire. Just ask that 30k worker if they have a retirement. It used to be the government took care of the retired but since we(USA) treat this country as a business the elderly poor just rot. A big thanks for nothing for working hard all their lives.
