+292 You would think it's easy to steal in Harry Potter's world, all you have to do is stand inside the store yell "ACCIO [insert wizarding product here]" and apparate away. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'd imagine the stores have some sort of magical security measures in place to protect against that.

You'd image, but you're wrong..

No, Dumbledore tells Harry in the sixth book that there are some places you can't apparate into or out of because it's not polite, but mostly because there's protective charms. He was referring to wizard homes and Hogwarts, but since lots of wizards live above their shops (Fred and George, for example, or the couple who owns Honeydukes) they'd most likely have the same protection. And in the seventh book Harry sets off a caterwauling charm when he apparates into Hogsmeade after curfew, and he can't apparate out again because of a second charm that turns the air solid. So, as you can see, there's plenty of evidence in the book to support what ctiscooler was saying.

I was unaware that there would be a quiz on the books for the rest of my life while I was reading them... next time, I'll be serious about conversations pertaining to fictional characters and the made up lives they live.

It's not really a quiz, just an observation, and it's not like I've obsessively studied. My father read me the books as bedtime stories in elementary school and I reread them occasionally on long road trips or when I'm sick. I'm sure you could quote similar things from your favorite musical group or television show.

I'm not seeing how this comment makes any sense anywhere... Do me a favor and get a keyboard with all the letters of the alphabet on it and spell out entire words.

Yeah I would think there are anti-theft charms on a lot of things.

I think it would be really easy to break into a wizard's house. They never lock their fireplaces.
