+533 It would be really helpful if humans were able to switch on/off their senses (hearing, taste etc..) and be able to sleep on command, amirite?

I WISH I COULD SLEEP ON COMMAND

Like in Dormia.

Doesn't that take the excitement and fun out of life?

What if you're really fat or diabetic and you have to eat healthy? What if you're about to get in a fight with someone twice your size? What if you're trying to read a really good book but it's too noisy? If you really don't want it, then don't use it. If you DID use it, it would be helpful.

You have life to enjoy the sweet sugary things in life. That's why you have those senses--to enjoy them, not exploit them. If you were to get in a fight, that pain can be a reminder not to do something that stupid repeatedly or even a badge of honor of what you went through. Say you're quietly reading a book at the bus stop and "turn off" your hearing. Say a drunk driver doesn't know where he's going and he's charging right at you--you ain't gonna be able to do anything because your hearing is turned off.

i am not saying you would always use it, but it would be useful to have sometimes. it's just a post too, doesn't need too turn into a debate. you either agree or don't. i don't think a lot of people care for reasons why you agree or don't.

If you don't want to use it, you don't use it. But it would be helpful if you had the choice.

Yes, I would love to be able to make other people fall asleep on command. Being able to control my senses would also be pretty nifty.
