-324 Any kid with emotional problems should not be in an intermediate class even if they can learn the same pace. amirite?

So they're shouldn't be able to learn at an intermediate level, potentially developing self esteem and gaining a life changing amounty of education because they have "emotional problems"? That's disgusting.

Why not?

Being around normal people and being treated normally is probably better for emotional problems than being stuck in special ed

In my school, they were treated worse because they were with the "normal people." There was this one girl who kept having these, like, panic attacks, and would freak out about things, and people made fun of her. It was pretty horrible.

yeah, I guess "emotional issues" is a very broad term. It would need to be a case-by-case decision. Some people can get over their emotional problems better without special treatment, some need it

Yes, very true. She was definitely special ed, though. The thing is, even if she had all these problems socially, she was also really smart, and understood what was happening in the class and asked intriguing questions and stuff. So she definitely deserved to be at that level intellectually, and if people were nicer to her it could have worked. It's just all too complicated.

So you think she should be robbed of an education because of the behavior of her peers?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't! Honestly, I have no idea how the situation should be amended. I just know that what is happening now is not working socially. She bursts out crying in class, and the teachers do nothing, they just tell her to ignore everyone, which makes it worse because she's a smart person and thinks everyone is just being condescending to her because of her disabilities.

That doesn't make much sense. Emotional problems don't really have much to do with learning ability, unless it's something like they go into a murderous rage whenever they get a question wrong, in which case lower-level classes would be better so they don't get things wrong and kill people. :P (That was a joke, though...)

"Emotional problems." This post is so vague that I don't have an opinion on it (other than believing it's vague).
