They're great for internet, there are great apps that let you watch slide shows on them, there are good note taking apps, and the only thing I can see as a downside is that it wouldn't be too great for writing papers.
I had one. It was too bulky and the only way to really enjoy it was to buy $100 worth of accessories. Honestly, an iPod touch makes more sense to me. Not to mention I'm not really a fan of apple... And now that Steve is gone, I don't foresee them getting any better.
I thought iPads were overrated until I got one; I'm pretty much addicted to mine. They're convenient and lightweight; the only thing is that I wish that they would support flash. But yeah, I'll be getting a laptop for college; you can't really write papers on an iPad.
My house hold has an ipad, we almost never use it, a laptop is so much more useful, convenient and durable. I honestly cannot think of a good reason to own an Ipad.
Thats not true....If you want a really good lap top, you are going to have to cough up a lot more than if you wanted a lower or a medium memory i-pad. But then again, if you get 3g, it is WAYYY over-priced.
The iPad is just an oversized iTouch.
I would get an iPad then sell it to buy 3 nice laptops and have money left over to buy games.
I'd settle for an ok laptop if it meant not having to bother fooling with an iPad.
The people who don't like iPads haven't tried them yet

You can do all of that on a laptop plus more. iPads are just another overpriced Apple product.

My mom's making me get an iPad for when I go to college... I can't even handle itouches, let alone an itouch on steroids.

if only i had a mom that forced me to get an extremely expensive, fancy product.
I think a laptop would be more reasonable for college. Wouldn't it be easier to type notes and papers on a laptop?

I only like iPads because it's easier and cheaper to play games off the App Store, it's portable, and half the price of a Mac laptop
And the same price as a decent laptop that doesn't have an Apple logo on the lid.
