Isn't it weirder that cleave can mean split apart or fuse back together? Antagonyms are the most confusing words ever.

Not that weird, considering there are bajillions of words that mean different things, homographs I think they're called. For example: bear arms: arms of a bear vs. to carry some human arms vs to carry a weapon vs weapons of a bear present: a gift to give someone joy vs, the current years right now fine: to ask for money for doing something wrong vs. something nice or of good quality train: to teach a dog or someone vs. a fucking giant transport device The language is bonkers, that's all. Nothing special about the word in the post.

Actually it's the same in every language. Idiomatic expressions are universal.

Uh, no. No they aren´t. Maybe you mean linguistic terms? Then sure, there are homographs in every language (as far as I know anyway). Idiomatic expressions are completely different things, such as "Break a leg", which is not in any way universal.

I meant that idiomatic expressions are subject to the colloquialisms of that language. This was in response to you saying "This language is bonkers." The language isn't that "bonkers" when compared to other languages. BTW, you aren't smarter than me.

Also, the phrase "Break a leg" is universal in its meaning, obviously not in its literal translation though. For example, in Spanish you would say "mucha mierda"(literally "much shit," lol) or maybe even "buenas suerte.(good luck)"

Universal because you know it in two languages? I know three, which is very little, and yet not even all three have an equivalent. And by "the language is bonkers" I was explaining the weird things that I just listed, I know there are things "bonkers" about other languages as well. It's like if I said this candy has a fucking ton of sugar, 50 grams of fat, 80 % more carbs than you need in a day, etc etc. and then finished by saying "The candy is unhealthy". It doesn't imply //anything// about other sweets, just states a summary of the specifics that I just listed.
