+264 If someone in a hospital wishes to just die and quit treatment for their disease, doctors should be allowed to let that happen, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree. It is the patient's life, so it should ultimately be their choice to be euthanized.

Why? Life is a beautiful thing and you should NEVER give up. If you say something like it has already happened, it tends to. Always try.

If you were in pain because of a disease or ailment, would you to suffer? Sure, you can stick it out, take your medicines, and have that SLIGHT chance of survival, but is that tiny possibility worth the pain?

Life is a great thing, but you have to know when it's time to go.

That rhymed by accident. I swear by my hair.

You're opinion on life should not dictate other's right to die.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is always so easy to say, until you're in that situation where you see people in their final days of life every day. They are either in such extremes of agony and yet still able to put on a brave face for everyone, or they're in so much pain that they are not even awake/conscious. I would never advocate doctor-assisted euthanasia because I do not believe doctors have the right to give or take away life, but I do believe in patient choice 100% when the patient has the capacity to make such a decision.

Yes, I see your point about the second part. It's just my opinion about the first part.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's fair enough, but it's important to bear these things in mind when making such statements. They could possibly be seen as offensive by some people who have been personally affected by death and devastating illness.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't mean to offend anyone, I was just stating my opinion on a site that was made for that purpose.

I know - I was only replying to your comment is all. A bit of enlightenment is good for the soul, sometimes.

It's ridiculously stupid when someone says "But if you legalize euthanasia then doctors will take advantage." Not if you just force them or a relative to sign a legal document...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's so hard for me to have a straight yes or no opinion on this. On one hand- it's the patient's life, nobody should force you to do something you don't want to. On the other hand- is it going to mess with doctors to know that their patient has chosen to die rather than have their help?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They're doctors who see death and horrible things daily, so if that bothers them, being a doctor probably wasn't the best career choice.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know they're told not to get attactched to patients but they're human too, don't you think it would be just a little discomforting?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It shouldn't be. They should know that the patient has options and if their option doesn't include the doctor's help, they shouldn't get too upset over it, especially since it's not really even about the doctor or his help.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

'Seeing death and horrible things daily' isn't part of the job description. And doctors are as human as anyone else; they're allowed to react to an uncomfortable sight.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't say they weren't allowed to. I said they should be expecting those kind of things, especially if they're doctors dealing with patients are that ill, and death is common.
