+240 It's understandable that teachers have higher expectations for their better students. However, there's a definite difference between having different expectations, and just plain having a double standard. amirite?

True, but a double standard isn't always a bad thing. If kids who are doing well in the class are allowed to listen to their iPods, maybe more kids would be motivated to do well in the class.

true, but more often than not it's a situation such as "oh johnny didn't do his homework so i'm mad at him because he's a good student and is supposed to set an example for the class, but suzie never does her homework so i don't really care".

I don't think it's about setting a good example, the teacher just knows he can do better. If someone obviously doesn't give a fuck, no point trying to make them. Just wastes time.
