Dear insane Christian on Facebook... Some people say "happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" because your religion isn't the only one that exists. This time of year doesn't ONLY celebrate Christmas, it holds many others. I think you lost the stepladder to get off your high horse, or maybe you just forgot to have your daily dose of education this past decade. amirite?
I always heard people say happy holiday because it incorporated both merry christmas and happy new year into one, as well as wishing the rest of the season goes well... It wasn't until semi-recently that I heard it being used as a way to try not to offend non-Christians, while somehow inadvertently offending Christians.
However, I do agree happy holidays may be a better way say it, although I have yet to see any non-Christians get as offended as some people make it out.
It's all just another "my religion is better their their religions" thing. High horses, egotism, idiocy. Nothing uncommon in the human race there.
You're right, I see lots of "High horses, egotism, and idiocy" in your posts :)
Then why are you looking at my posts
I'm an atheist and I say Merry Christmas just because that's what comes to mind first. I don't really give a crap if people say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays". Who cares what people say? It's a nonissue, really. People who actually get upset over this need to get over it.
^Agreed. Usually if it's someone I know or I know a holiday starts a certain day, I try to use that one (ie, wishing Happy Hanukkah on the first day of Hanukkah and texting my Jewish friends, Merry Christmas on Christmas day, etc...).
I don't know who gets offended if someone wishes them the wrong holiday. It's the gesture that matters, not the words, right?
Happy December!
I think that Christians can say "Merry Christmas" if they celebrate it, just like Jews can say "Happy Hannukkah" on any night that it is Hanukkah. As well as Muslims can say "Have a good Ramadan" when their holiday is taking place (even though not necessarily in December).
First off, the guy is not "insane" for thinking that.
I say Merry Christmas to people, because most of the people I know are Catholic. I don't understand why YOU get offended when someone says Merry Christmas. If someone said "Happy Hanukkah to me, I wouldn't be offend, I would just say happy Hanukkah to them back because I know I'll never see them again, or tell them I'm Christian if I know them. I personally do not like people who try to be so politically correct, and say Happy Holidays because of that.
The poster didn't indicate at all that he's offended when people say "Merry Christmas!" Just distaste for ignorant people that think everyone should conform to what they want
This is neither DBPB or Facebook
You're paying attention to the format of the post than the content of it.
There is no one way to format an amirite? post. It has to be debatable or a joke somehow and it has to have "amirite?" at the end of it. The "Dear insane Christian on Facebook" was to reference the reader to the topic I'm talking about. It fits the way the post is written, it fits the way I intended the post to be, and the format of it is no violation against the rules of amirite?.
This isn't computer applications class, either. We're not learning how to write a proper post to a mildly popular website based on voicing opinions.
No, I posted it there. There is not rule stating I can't post it here, too. This is a website based on opinions and ideas. And that's what I posted.
You're being ridiculously prude about a website.
This is amiRITE, not amiRANT
Goodness gracious, the premise of amirite? is to express opinions and thoughts and ideas. That's what I'm doing. It's not about facts.
Its supposed to be lighthearted and fun. Nit a place for people to complain. Go back to fml
Says who? Where does amirite say that?
Oh, I took something seriously and made a small rant. Heaven forbid! The horror! This person deserves to be BANNED.
You're ridiculous. This place is based on opinions and ideas. You expect people to not complain? Where the hell have you been? A quarter of the posts are people complaining. If you don't like that, then cries for you but nobody cares, similar to how you "don't care" about this post, I'm sure. So let's all conform to how amirite? should be to YOU. Yes, it's all about you, I'm sure.
And haha a reference to a website that other people use to complain about life that the majority of amirite? doesn't like so original you're so hilarious and witty oh give this man a gold star A++ never heard that one before.
Im gonna leave you alone after this cause you are way too worked up. But dude. 1 I am not a man. 2 calm down. This it the internet, not life
I think this post is being overly politically correct and critical. It's sad that people cannot say Merry Christmas without offending someone. If you don't celebrate Christmas, disregard it. I would in no way be offended if someone posted "Happy Hanukkah!" on Facebook. MANY of my friends are Jewish. There is nothing wrong with saying Happy Holidays, but if you want to be specific and say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Kwanzaa" or "Happy New Year" you have every right to! That does not make the person who says it someone who needs to step off a "high horse" or someone who is an "insane Christian." Seriously, I've never understood why people even feel this way.
He's not complaining about people that say "Merry Christmas," he's complaining about people that get angry when someone doesn't say "Merry Christmas."
Ooh, okay! Now I see. I was really unsettled because I thought it was saying that people who says "Merry Christmas" were imposing their values. I still believe what I wrote in my comment, but it doesn't really apply now.
If you're Christian say "Merry Christmas"
If you aren't say "Happy Hanukkah", "Happy Holidays", "Happy Kwanzaa","Happy New Year" or whatever else tickles your fancy.
Who cares what they individually stand for. They are all winter greetings that are used in the same way, and I wouldn't be upset if you chose to tell me to "Have A Nice Day" instead of "Have a good afternoon."
Merry Christmas!
I rather say Happy Holidays because it usually makes everyone happy. And if a Christian doesn't like it I'll say "Fuck you, too."
I get where you, and everybody else is coming from, but the only reason the Government celebrates Christmas the most is that in today's society, Christmas is basically a non-religious holiday. Atheists celebrate Christmas as a time of get together and family time. As do Christians, but with religion mixed in.
I agree, especially since Christmas is included in those holidays said in "Happy Holidays."
Nice mom.
You all need hugs in my opinion.
That makes a little more sense I suppose but still its a little rude to say insane christian
He IS an insane Christian. He just continued on with 3 paragraphs spouting bullshit about how Jesus was born and how great God is and it was just preaching and preaching while bitching and bitching... It was ridiculous.
I don't know many Christians that get upset over saying happy holidays. What we get upset about is xmas.
Hence why I said "insane" Christian.
Also, Xmas is not the secular version of Christmas. That's a common misconception. It's actually just an abbreviation, so anyone can use it in place of Christmas.
I'd like to redirect you here http://amirite.net/684645.
Go nuts.
You mad bro?
He's complaining about people that get easily angered and offended over holiday sayings. And since you disagree with him, it's logical to conclude that you are one of those people.
So, a more proper question is: are you mad, bro?
I read your comment and then continued reading your username...it made me laugh
How about you just be happy with whatever the fuck they say to you because at least someone took the time to say something nice to you.
Then why did you disagree?
because it angers you when people say merry christmas.
That's not what I said. This has been clarified in the comments like 2 times (but you might be on a phone and reading it all would be in the pain in the ass so I would understand).
The insane Christian on Facebook was saying that "happy holidays" in an "incorrect" saying, and that everyone should say "Merry Christmas" because of some religious Christian bullshit about Jesus, even though this time of year celebrates many holidays.
In the post, I was saying that he's stupid for thinking that and should recognize the other holidays celebrated.
I must've worded this post really strangely, but I meant it in the intention that not everyone should HAVE to say Merry Christmas, and he should accept people saying "happy holidays". So basically, your comment is a paraphrase of my post.
tdlr you're too into this shit.
TL;DR: Your comment was a paraphrase of my post and you must have read my post wrong.
OK SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS POST...first of all that person said merry christmas probably because its christmas tomorrow..dumbass just because someone said merry christmas on Facebook you don't need to have a fit like a child.
No, you completely misread the post.
The insane Christian was bitching about how people say "Happy holidays!" instead of "Merry Christmas!". By the way, he posted it on the 23rd.
