The female honorific "Mrs." was probably "Mr.'s" originally, amirite?

I think it was Mistress, and probably same goes for Mister, coming from Master. I'm not sure, though :P

Like Andromeda said I think it cones from Mistress. That's still a pretty interesting thought, though. I've never considered that possibility before.

Yes, it came from Mistress, which was the most polite term of address for a common married woman (she could also be called "Goodwife," but that implied lower social status.)
