+193 While most musicians tend to go from putting out meaningful songs to commercialized songs, Lady Gaga did the opposite. amirite?

Of course, she went into the "meaningful" direction to serve her commercial interests. Songs about self-love were all the rage in 2011.

I doubt that Gaga ever followed a trend. She made that shit happen.

Not really...Katy Perry's "Firework", Pink's "Fuckin' Perfect", Glee, even Lupe Fiasco "The Show Goes On" all beat Lady Gaga to the punch.

you don't know when she wrote it. She could have written it years ago, and released it in '11. plus she released it because she sincerely meant it.

I'm pretty sure I remember her saying she was in the process of writing it in late 2010...I think she sang a line of it at the MTV Music Video Awards or something. She might have "sincerely meant it", but there's no question that she didn't release it until after a wave of successful self-love anthems were released.

It's to mainstream for her.

All musicians go meaningful to commercial to meaningful. They make songs they care about when they're a young nobody and "don't give a shit" what anybody thinks. Then they get a little famous and rich and start to sell out whatever they're told to make/play to get richer. Then they get so rich they can afford not to give a shit once again and they start pounding out less than decent meaningful music that gets popular because of who they are
