+171 People with a lisp: You might act flattered sometimes, but you actually don't like when someone calls your lisp "cute", especially if you've been trying to practice saying your words normally. It just reminds you that your lisp really is noticable, which disappoints you greatly. Amirite?

I had to go to speech therapy all elementary but sometimes it comes back. ):

Same goes for people with accents. d I think I finally got rid of it and then I hear "Oh I really like your accent!" ono

What is your accent?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Russian/British. Taught by British teachers, raised with native tongue Russian. What's yours?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Please don't ever try to get rid of it. It's American with a tint of Bostonian which is quite noticeable.

I love when people have accents when they speak Spanish.

I feel bad about liking lisps now...

It also applies to people with stutters, or any speech impediments. And anyways, I always seem to vote for posts that don't typically apply to me b/c I can see how it does apply to its target.

Doesn't just apply to lisps, I get that a lot with my stutter.

I don't have a lisp, but I have a really thick Southern accent with some words. I was in a lab group and after I said something one of the guys in my group was like, "I really hate Southern accents." :I

What a jerk.

That's exactly what happened to me in elementary school when I had a Polish accent. The kids would make fun of it since I said it weirdly & they would pretend like they didn't understand me. It made me feel stupid. :<

I really like Southern accents.

While I've never had a lisp, I did have a lot of trouble with the "R" sound. Once I finally tried to correct it, some people told me that they thought it was cute how I couldn't say my R's.

I have the same problem, you're definitely not alone, i've been in the same situations...

I have a really weird speech impediment, although it's not so much an impediment as a combination of a Bostonian and Long Island and Southern accent and just trying to get words out faster than I'm physically capable of. I hear my own voice so differently than others that I can't hear it, but I notice when other people can because they honestly can't understand me. No one thinks it's cute. They just think I'm hyperactive. frown

Who thinks lisps are cute?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I do. Well, I didn't until I met someone who has it who's also a hip hop artist, it's quite thekthy to thpit like this.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This happened to me (I don't have a lisp but a slight speech impediment) and I tried to explain to them that while it was meant as a compliment, it insulted me, and they just didn't get it.

I dont naturally have a lisp but i need to wear a retainer constantly for a while and that gives me a really bad one. one of my friends says its cute and i already know its super noticable so it kind of made me feel better since at least everyone doesnt think i sound disgusting.
