+241 It's so annoying how the girls who are always saying " Love your body for what it is!" are the same girls who say " Curves are so much more beautiful than skinny!" .... I'm skinny, i'm not anorexic. If you're gonna say love your body for what it is, shouldnt that mean ALL body types? Everyone stands up for the curvy girls and calls the skinny ones unattractive. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't understand why people keep thinking we need to stick up for skinny girls when they're the ones who rarely get made fun of...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but why should it matter what kind of body type we have.???? everyones always saying " Every body type is beautiful!" " Love your body for what it is!" " Everyone is beautiful!" then how can they turn around and say " Skinny is unattractive" " Curves are beautiful" " Guys hate skinny, get some curves" then theyre kinda being hypocritical right??? They are not telling people to love they're body no matter , they are telling them to fit into another body type. It's hypocritical. '

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because people with curves are made fun of more often. I've never heard anyone say skinny is unattractive. Millions of girls have starved themselves or made themselves throw up but I rarely hear of girls overeating to get curves

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why dont we just stop making fun of body types all together! girls with curves cant get angry for people making fun of their body type , when they do the exact same thing to girls who are skinny. And I hear skinny is unnatractive and girls should have curves ALL THE TIME!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Skinny girls have it much better than overweight/chubby girls

by Anonymous 12 years ago

maybe inn highschool. But I cant remember the last time i heard someone say that skinny is beautiful> I hear CURVES are beautiful, I hear CURVES are what guys like, I hear CURVES are what real girls have. Cant we just say every body type is beautiful and move on?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's just fat girls get mad that people make fun of them for being fat and unhealthy. So they make fun of the people who they are "supposed" to look like. Girls like jlo are curvy. Girls like Kate Moss are skinny. Girls like rosey o'donnell are fat. Theres a big difference and guys aren't usually into the extremes. Most like girls in the middle with curves but not too much. That's not to say guys won't find fat or skinny girls attractive but neither are the ones guys typically find attractive.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And people don't say get skinny as much as they say get an hourglass shape

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As someone who is 100 lbs and 5 ft 3, I can tell you it's not better. People generally stay away from making fun of fat people because it's socially accepted to, but they think it's ok to make fun of someone who's skinny, so it happens a lot more. When I was in school, on a nearly daily bases someone would comment on it. You're going to the bathroom after lunch, need me to hold your hair back? Oh you're not hungry? *whispers to their friend* hah no wonder they're too skinny. Real girls have meat, only dogs go after bones. Why don't you go eat a cheeseburger? Just to name a few. I'm not even that skinny either. Most fat people I meet only get picked on occasionally. I do not. And again, I'm not even that thin, so I can only imagine what it's like for girls who are very thin.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@colebowl - I totally feel for ya, I'm 105 lbs but 5'7" so people sometimes tell me I look //unhealthy//. I get jokes in my direction all the time, and once when I was in 8th grade there was a 7th grader who walked right up to me and blatantly asked "Are you anorexic?" which I got kind of angry about. I was born with a fast metabolism so I'm just naturally really thin...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@Anon, just because fat girls get picked on more so than skinny girls doesn't give them to right to make fun of someone else. I completely agree with OP here. We can't have a double standard depending on your body shape.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Curvy is not the same thing as fat. Tons of skinny girls still have hips and boobs. To me when you get overweight you lose curves because you turn into a round blob of fat that has no shape.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Skinny girls get made fun of a ton at my school, but it's not that that I care about. That's not a big deal. It's the " Curvy is beautiful and skinny girls look sick/boys don't like skinny girls/ 'how about some food, toothpick'/ you look anorexic" that get under my skin. I don't fight back whenever someone says something about curvy girls being beautiful, because they are, but last week, when I went to the bathroom after lunch to brush my teeth, someone yelled " Going to go throw up?" After me.That stung more then anything, because i am in no way anorexic or bulimic.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

EXACTLY! they can say Curvy is beautiful all they want! THEY ARE! but does that mean skinny isnt??? Every body type is beautiful , why can't we just love what we were born with??

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know! Some people don't have to do anything to be skinny, like just fast metabolism or whatever. It's not a bad thing... It's like OKAY I work out and eat healthy. What's your problem?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@all of that shit^^^^ Guys just want nice tits

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I understand how you feel. I'm totally for everyone embracing their own natural, healthy body type. Being extremely overweight isn't healthy, but neither is being extremely overweight. Curves or lack of aren't the definition of beautiful. Being healthy and confident is beautiful.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i know this isn't completely related, but there is a difference between fat and overweight. i understand that as a general public, many people who are fat, are also overweight but they mean 2 different things. for my height i am overweight, but my body fat % is relatively low because i go to the gym alot. i hat the automatic assumption of overweight = fat

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I agree that "love your body" should be universal, and that just as no one should call fat people ugly, no one should call skinny people ugly, either. What I don't agree with is that the "love your body" people are also the "skinny is ugly" people. In my experience, most people who say to love your body say it to fat and skinny alike. If your experience has been different, then I'm sorry for what you've gone through.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh, boo hoo. You have it so tough.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

...Bitch.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's not the issue. When you have almost everybody you know attacking you for being too skinny or not having the body that "real women" have, it's a struggle. Having gone through just that, the sarcasm in your original comment just rubbed me the wrong way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So you mean instead of realizing that there are bigger issues out there than yourself, you sit and sulk? That's not going to help your self confidence at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Think of it this way. Saying "you're so much better off than starving children, you should be happy" to a depressed person won't make him happy. And this body image thing is //still// an issue, no matter how much you think it's overshadowed by other issues. It also has much to do with Maslow's hierarchy of needs. I already had food, water, shelter, etc. Now I wanted my peers to accept me.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You have some growing up to do, then. I'll leave you to it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There's nothing wrong with wanting acceptance. You just don't get it. When almost everybody around you is tormenting you, the very last thing you will care about is others, because you are so broken and need help. But you obviously won't get it. You haven't been bullied, so you'll //never// get it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sometimes I feel like overweight girls overly embrace the whole "curvy" thing and show everyone that they are "proud of their bodies" to convince themselves that they are happy with their body when really, inside there's a part of them that wants to be thinner (whether it's just a little bit thinner or a lot thinner). But this is just my opinion, I don't know if this is true at all.
