-83 You think it sucks for my friend that her school's grading system goes A B C F, no D, it's either an acceptable grade a complete fail amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's kind of like that in some of my classes. If you don't get an 80 on the test, you fail and have to retake it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well it won't be an issue if you pass... Which everyone should. Honestly, a C is really easy and takes little to no effort, even if the subject is difficult for you. People who have D's just don't put forth the effort in the first place, so they don't deserve to pass.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not necessarily. A subject could be honestly difficult for you, and you try and you try, but you get a D on a test. It's rare, but it happens.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That can only happen if: 1.) You're stupid. The most likely scenario. 2.) You didn't learn enough in the previous classes and you shouldn't be in that class. For example, you're in Spanish 3 but you never properly learned the material in Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 or if you're taking trigonometry, but you still don't know what a triangle is, you're gonna be fucked.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your response really bugs me. Don't call people stupid who actually try and put effort into learning. People learn in different ways and there are millions if people with learning challenges. Don't call them stupid just because it doesn't come as easily to them as it does to you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How would you define "stupid" then? If people are giving education their best effort and still failing, they're stupid. It's not fair, but that doesn't change their genes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So people with learning challenges are stupid? People who give it their best are stupid? People who try educational websites, numerous tutors, and more time studying than they ever have before are stupid?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

People that give it their best and still fail are indeed stupid. You seem to think we live in this perfect world where your intelligence is a direct result of your effort in school. That's not the case. An individual's education is enhanced through actual effort in school, allowing them to be perceived as smarter, but their natural intelligence remains unaltered. In this sense, children with learning disabilities aren't necessarily stupid but they'll definitely be perceived that way and have no hopes in an education-based career.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Coming from experience, you *can* try your absolute hardest, and still get a D in the class. Sometimes the subject just doesn't click with that person. You have *no* right to say they're stupid if they don't understand, even after finding help. So get off your high horse and shut the fuck up.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can argue that if that only occurs once, you're not necessarily stupid. But if you consistently fail classes that you're putting your full effort into, then it's logical to conclude that you're stupid. I know we all want a world where that's not the case, but it is and denying it won't change anything.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"Aren't necessarily stupid"? "Precieved that way"? "No hopes in an education-based career?" Who are you to tell people what they can and cannot do? You're either trolling or the REAL meaning of stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you can't handle educational topics when giving them your full effort, you don't have any hopes in an education-based career. An example is if someone spends years trying to become an artist and puts all their effort into their artwork and still produces low-quality art. In reality, they're not artistic and have no future as an artist. They can do what they want. I'm not telling them what they have to do, I'm telling them realistically what to expect. If you're not artistic, don't be an artist. If you're not educated and intelligent, don't choose a career path that requires those attributes.

I'm dyslexic and failed algebra, though I studied everything, got tutored, and went to summer school.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nah, I think most American schools are a bit too lax as it is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

C isn't really an acceptable grade.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

C is a meaningless letter that's based on a meaningless percentage. If you understand about 70% of an incredibly complicated subject, getting a C might be something to be proud of.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

C means you got between 70-79% of the possible points on something. It doesn't mean you understand 70% of a subject. A C might be something to be proud of if you put a lot of work to get it or if most other people got below a C, but from my experience that doesn't happen often.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

C means average at my school, having an average grade is acceptable. It just doesn't make sense to me, either you're average or you suck. C is perfectly acceptable, depending on what the grades mean to your school.m

by Anonymous 12 years ago

C technically means average everywhere. Is your school curved so that the median grade in every class is a C?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

are system is A* A B C D E F G U

by Anonymous 12 years ago

what what the hell - who put a g in the grading system!?!?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm guessing they should probably change their grading system if their students can't use the correct for of "our."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My school doesn't have F's. It stops at E because an F 'makes the student feel like a failure' Well yeah, you sort of are if you got an F.
