+109 Feminism isn't about equality. It's about female self interest and revenge, amirite?

Feminism is the idea that you can make the sexes equal by focusing on the problems of one of them.

To be fair, I don't think that's the idea behind femenism, but it usually seems to manifest itself that way

I follow a lot of feminist blogs, and they don't only focus on the problems of women, the majority of the content does, but there is also a lot of articles about male rape victims and how it goes unreported and doesn't get treated seriously enough, and about how males are discouraged from showing any emotion and how that is damaging to them and stuff like that.

Boringly unoriginal opinion about feminism/10

Feminism is trying to enforce equality. it's just doing it wrongly, by making feminists total bitches. I think the idea is like adding excess concentrated acid to an alkali to neutralise it faster than adding the correct amount of acid, then quickly remove the acid to maintain a pH of 7. That is not possible. There should be representatives for both genders to agree on trade-offs. For example, the female representatives would say: if you pay us equally, you have an equal chance of getting on a lifeboat. If we remove the stigma of hitting girls, you have to conduct special female-oriented driving lessons so we know exactly what not to do.

I agree with your principles, but your examples were shit.

Yeah, I know. I can't really think of so many at once so I just used some random differences.

I would like girls to know that there are things guys have to do too. Girls enjoy looking pretty, so they spend a lot of money on accessories, makeup, hair things, etc. Guys pay for the date (meals, movie tickets, gas), buy the engagement ring (3 months salary). All guys and girls please reply with your gender's disadvantages, no matter how petty. i want to get a complete list.

If a guy doesn't shave, some girls consider it sexy. It's acceptable to grow a beard. If a girl doesn't shave, she's disgusting and socially unaware. Girls are often not taken as seriously in math and science classes. Some people tend to assume that we don't know anything and they can be pretty condescending if you're a girl in a higher-level math class. To be fair, guys are usually discouraged from taking art classes, French as a language, dance, and those type of classes. Guys go through puberty once. Girls go through puberty, and then menopause.

In the same way that guys get IMS (a point which I'm not completely sure about) we get menopause too. It manifests itself as a very expensive and possibly (but rarely) marriage wrecking mid-life crisis. I don't know which school you're going to, but we only observe gender differences outside the classroom. A lot of guys in my school like art, and a lot like french. No one gives them crap about it. I like art, but I don't like people yelling at me for drawing badly, so i just draw badly at home.

I go to school in the United States. Now that I look at it again, I may not have worded that clearly- Guys are not usually DISCOURAGED openly from taking art, french, or dance. It's more of a thing where people kind of snort when they hear "I take dance" or "I take French." Most classes at my school are about 30 people. In my french class, there are three males. In my art class, there are also three. In dance, there were about two. I had not heard of IMS before, do you know if it's a common thing?

As someone active in the feminist community, it kind of makes me sad to see people think this about us. You do get misandrists, but... those aren't feminists. Feminists are for gender equality, and the fact is that males do still have privilege and it is mostly misogyny that is the cause for gender equality. That said, feminists usually do acknowledge that misandry exists. This is like saying the civil rights movement is for black people to have their revenge, or fighting for gay marraige is just a way for gay people to upset straights. Feminism focuses on women because, unsurprisingly, males have the privilege most everywhere and don't need people fighting for their rights like women do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp8tToFv-bA You should watch this. It's a little long, but if you're actually active in the feminist community, it may be interesting for you to hear the other side of the story.
