+171 It's a bit odd that students aren't permitted to have beards at Brigham Young considering Jesus had one, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And so did Brigham Young, come to think of it.

Jesus lived 2000 years ago...

And...?

I like how we're the only people that no wayd this.. and we're the two Mormons. Shows what other people know about our religion! <3

Actually, 8 people voted it down. Unless you have 8 accounts, you don't have to take all the credit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When I said it, it was only us two. Which is very wont to happen, because you said 8 and there is now apparently 10.

How are you sure Jesus had a beard?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most, if not all of the images of Jesus show him with a beard. I'm not "sure", but it's certainly a fair assumption.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True, but those images just don't make sense to me. How would he be perfectly clean? I don't take them as "real" at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They have a reason to fake him being clean, but what could the reason be for pretending he had a beard?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't even know, but it could be that back in time beards were a sign of authority and power. Your post makes sense, I just always have questions like that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

A vast majority of images of Jesus also show him as being a white man.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Again, there is a reason for Christians to lie about his race. White people back then (and probably a fair amount today) just couldn't follow a lord that was //brown//! How unthinkable! Making him white increased his acceptance. What do they have to gain from giving him a beard?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No clue, but a majority of images of him were created long after he left this world. Created by men who had no idea what he looked like. I think the only thing that we should actually assume about the appearance of Christ is that he was brown.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay, fair enough. But most people (like me) assume that he did have a beard. And if the faculty at Brigham Young assume this, then my post is valid, just not worded correctly. I should have said "considering how widely accepted it is that Jesus had a beard", or something. Also, forget Jesus, Brigham Young himself had a beard!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yes with that reason it is quite a valid post and an easy assumption to make.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Those were depictions. We can't know for sure if he had a beard or not.
