+226 It's annoying when people assume you're dating someone of the opposite sex just because they see you hang out with them a lot, amirite?

Every single girl I have ever been seen in public with; at least one person has asked me or her, "are you guys dating?" Makes me wonder how it will be when homosexuality is accepted by everyone. Will people ask me if I'm dating my gay friend just because I hang out with him?

After a while you won't be able to hang out with anyone. Someone will walk up to a mixed boy/girl group of people and ask them if they're swingers :o

I hang out with my best friend a lot and we're both straight guys, but we've still had people ask if we were dating.

I was asked this by people because I was talking to a girl on the internet no

My best friend is a rather attractive gay guy, and since I live in the south and he's not overly feminine, the girls here don't believe he's gay. People won't stop asking if we're together so now we just smile at them and let them believe what they want.

What I got from this, "Since I live in the South, people don't believe in gays."

I'm saying they only have one heavily stereotyped view of gays.

Yeah I understand.

Or when people keep telling you that you should date that person

Or even the same sex, for me anyways. My mom's asked me often, "Are you dating this guy!?" because we talk a lot. And sometimes teachers and students will look at me and my friends and ask if I'm dating one of them. It's not really annoying, though. I think it's funny, and it tells me that we have a good friendship.

My best friend and I get asked if we're dating constantly. Sometimes people don't believe us when we say no-including our English teacher...

A few years back, I got friend requests on facebook from both of my friend Chris' sisters. I had never actually met either of them, but I didn't want to be rude so I just accepted them. At this time, Chris had just started dating our friend Kristen. I later found out that the reason his sisters had friended me on facebook was because they hadn't met her yet, and they assumed that I was the one he was dating because he talked about hanging out with me all the time. Apparently it made the event of his sisters meeting his actual girlfriend very awkward, as that was the moment they realized they thought his girlfriend was someone else. Kristen was not too pleased, but I thought it was pretty funny.
