+214 You don't agree that kids in school (elementary, middle, high) should start getting paid for their grades (accordingly, i.e. A+ = $20) as "motivation", amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think there should be some form of compensation for our efforts in at least High School. Instead of $20 for an A I think it should be a dollar if you're passing and 5 if you're making an A. Considering the average High School student has 6-8 classes that's $30-$40 dollars every six weeks. Unless you're parents pay you by progress reports, then it would be $30-$40 every three weeks.

What about those that have a learning disability? Would or //should// they be held at a different standard for compensation? The way I'm looking at this is that it's meant for //motivation//, but I don't understand how if someone is working their butt off trying to make an A but they just can't get there how is that $5 bucks motivation suppose to magically make them that //tad// smarter that they need to be to get that perfect A?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't know how they grade people with learning disabilities so I can't form an opinion on this matter. My idea is that the parents would pay the students. The school wouldn't be responsible. If I didn't have a job and my parents offered me money for my grades I would try more than I do now.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, gosh no. I'm referring to the fact that some school districts want to pass a law were //they// pay the students. (which seriously, where would the school get this money anyway?)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's idiotic. A school paying kids to improve their own futures? My school already gave the teachers iPads this year so I doubt they could give all 2000 students 5 dollars for passing with A's. Although. My school does have a form of this. If you pass your AP exams they give you $100 for each test. So the most you could make is $500.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes. That was my point for this post. It is very idiotic..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wow... My school is broke (I live in Florida, a lot of people move here for retirement or something so they don't want to fund the school with taxes because they don't have kids). There is no chance in Hell I could ever make money off of my grades.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Technically we do get paid for good grades. The better the grades are, the better your job is. ;)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know. That's my point that your future //should// be your "pay", your motivation. Not some money.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I miss read don't. lol sorry.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

oh..I should have made that bold or something. :/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My parents did that for a while. It was like instead of getting a weekly or monthly allowance for doing chores, we got an 'allowance' when ever report cards came out. If the grades were good enough.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nooo. This isn't about parents paying their kids. ono Look at the above comments please. :L

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oooh. Well, that's stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, that's what i'm saying. It's a dumb idea that the district shouldn't even consider.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Where is this being considered at?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Kids need to be taught to find motivation by themselves. I get all A's and haven't ever been paid for it, but I keep doing it because I'm self-motivated, and I'm glad that I am.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They should be kicked in the teeth for actually trying in highschool no one needs high school fuck that shit

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've always been very self-motivated, never really needed my parents to push me to get good grades. I always hate it when my friends start really caring about grades because they will get a new laptop if they get all A's and B's while I have never even made a B. The most I ever get for my grades is my mom taking me out to lunch.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I made straight A's in high school, and I never once got paid for it. It was more of an expectation out of myself and my parents, not something for which I should be rewarded.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

At my school, you get a cupcake if you get straight As. It's always bothered me because it rewards people who take really easy classes like gym and art and punishes people who who challenge themselves by hard taking classes they know they will struggle with. I respect people who stay up late every night struggling to pass AP Physics a lot more than I respect people who get straight As with an easy schedule.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's why i'm saying it would be a stupid idea. Too many holes, like if I bust my ass in an AP class I refuse to be held at the same standards as someone in a regular class.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Instead of money, why not something else? Maybe candy, cake, weed, etc...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think they should give you the money when you graduate, maybe. Keep a record of your grades and use it to figure out how much. And it should be different amounts based on grades and levels (honors, AP, regular classes)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If school is supposed to prepare students for the real world, then there's nothing wrong with compensating them financially for their hard work.
