+151 It would be awesome to let off a bubble of a mixture of methane and oxygen underwater, then ignite it so fire moves through the bubble, which remains visually unchanged afterwards, amirite?

No. The fire would have both the methane and oxygen as a fuel source, consuming both. Because it is consuming them, the bubble would get smaller and smaller until the fire burns out due to the lack of fuel and also from the water.

And what happens to the carbon dioxide product? Which expands because of heat? I tried the experiment with lighter gas and air in a bucket. It works.
