+208 It pisses you off when a cop turns on his lights to get past a red light then turns them off once he's past the intersection, amirite?

Though I agree, I would so do that if I were a cop

Every job has it's perks.

sometimes the cops don't necessarily want to tip off who they are going to arrest and so keep the siren off as much as possible, and besides like StickCaveman said, every job has perks.

I understand that, but it still pisses me off at that moment :)

fact of the matter is that cops save lives and protect us to an extent, if they don't want to stop at red lights, who cares? same with ambulances, paramedics drive around saving lives all day, i don't care if they don't want to waste time at a set of lights

Lol, I care because they're abusing their privileges. The law states that //no one// is allowed to pass a red light (obviously there are exceptions to that such as ambulance emergencies). Just because they're a police officer, it doesn't mean that they can get that sort of benefit.

Actually, it does mean they can get that sort of benefit, because they do. But that doesn't mean they should.

I asked a policeman about that once when I was younger, he said sometimes its not necessarily an emergency to be there but they should be there as quick as possible, and also sometimes they need to attract less attention and do that. I think he called the first example a code blue..
