+246 Coming out of your shell has a whole new meaning as a turtle. You basically die. So in some cases, it's better to just be shy, amirite?

Because turtles are people.

Never did I say turtles are people. But both turtles and people can be shy. Therefor the phrase 'coming out of your shell' for a turtle has a new meaning.

If two things have something in common, they don't necessarily have everything in common. Turtles literally have shells not because they're shy but because a shark (or other predator) could come and eat their ass if they didn't have it. People have metaphoric shells because they are shy for a multitude of reasons. This could include being afraid of being embarrassed or being wrong, fear of judgment, not liking other people, or just not having anything to say/not wanting to socialize. Turtles getting eaten by sharks has absolutely no bearing on whether or not a person should or should not be more social. Also: A watched pot never boils. But if you're a lobster, you could die in a pot of boiling water. So in some cases, it's better to watch the pot.

And naturally the person named "GrammarGirl" takes things way too literally. Clearly you do not belong on amirite, because half of the posts here contain a play on words, pun, sarcasm, etc. I'm not describing a scientific and psychological understand of turtles. The fact that you think someone on here would is an infantile way of thinking. Rather, it's to cleverly examine the idiomatic phrase we so commonly utter and reference it to something that literally has a shell. In addition, never did I say that because turtles die if they come out of their shell, people should not, That's a clearly "Non Sequitur" argument that would make no sense in this amirite. Not every amirite post is an exceptionally in-depth examination into the gritty details, nor does it have to be overly intellectual; however, you've forced me to go into gruesome details in order to explain a fact that nearly every other person who voted on this understood.

Right, but usually a play on words involves humor. Most posts on this site are opinions, quotes, or jokes, with the occasional insightful. This was neither funny nor insightful, nor is it just an opinion that you can agree or disagree with. I understood that you were making a play on words. I just thought it was dumb.

I don't know, the 237 people who voted it up seemed to find it at least enjoyable. Sometimes instead of trolling, you should enjoy the little things in life. Vote it down because you don't enjoy it, I don't care, but you don't need to make the comments section unenjoyable for the rest of people.
