There really is no reason to sentence a prisoner to another life sentence if they kill another inmate; I mean they're not going anywhere. At that point it's probably more about bragging rights. "What, you have one life sentence? Pshh, I have three", amirite?
Inb4 Favvkes posts a picture of a cat in reference to the whole "nine lives" thing
DARRRNNNN YOUUUUUUUU
I thought you couldn't get inb4'd
A life sentence is only 20 to 25 years. Kinda misleading isn't it?
Wow, really? That's pretty ridiculous; I wasn't aware that people only lived 20-25 years.
I know, right?
Where did you get the information that 20-25 years is a life sentence, I've only seen that it is an actual LIFE sentence. Also, I figured the reasoning for giving multiple life sentences was to take away the factor of one of them being appealed and therefore letting the person go free.
I've heard people say it and I Googled it before I posted that comment.
It could also vary from state to state but in America, it's typically 20 to 25. So two sentences would be 40 to 50 years.
I'm from the states, and I do believe that Penguinn is right.
Actually no. Most life sentences are meant to destroy a man's life more than actually keep him until death.
Wow, I guess you learn something new every day.
Not everyone from the third world is a starving African child. >.>
Regardless, "third world countries" includes far more than Sub-Saharan Africa or Central Asia. Third world doesn't necessarily equal poor or even substandard living conditions. I used the imagery of a starving African child because that tends to be the generalization of the third world. (Replace African with Southern or Central Asian if you want.) I was calling out your implied stereotype, I didn't think you meant only Africa.
After 25 years you can appeal to get it shortened...its still life.
It's usually called 25 to life. Sometimes they say life, but most of the time you can get an appeal after 25 years.
Thats just blatantly wrong.
I have no memory of writing that...
Psh that'll never happen
totally implausible.
Fun fact: Dudley Wayne Kyzer was sentenced to imprisonment for 10,000 years in 1981 for having brutally killed his wife.
Do you always just Google random keywords from the POTD just to have something to say?
no, acksh, i usually just see an opportunity for humor or more debate, and then research that to see if i can make it funnier or more interesting
So I was right. You find a good post, can't think of anything, so you resort to google doing the work for you.
Nack, it's hard work. Somedays I'll sit for an hour and a half trying to come up with a good comment. Sometimes I have to surf the net and sometimes I have to make something up. Either way, it's tough.
Did you just call me Nack.

And what the hell is "acksh"?
And why can't you express your views in words rather than screencaps?
And why can't you just not comment when you have nothing to say?
short for "actually" (in hipster)
a picture's worth a thousand words
i think it's fun, challenging, and rewarding to love-grub
Oh, I thought it was short for "actually" in 12-year-old.
But continue to attention-whore around. It's none of my business.
Dudley Wayne Kyzer: Pfft, I got 10000 years plus 2 life sentences. You're all my bitches now.
It can also be used to intimidate the others. My uncle had 12 life sentences and he said all of the other prisoners stayed away from him.
Yeah, that's probably the reasoning behind it. "Here, I'll give you FOUR life sentences so the other inmates aren't mean to you!"
I never said that was the reason they got them, just another use besides bragging.
That came out a little bitcher than I had intended, I was joking.
Well actually, it can affect how long you stay in prison. If it is decided that you get the death penalty, you will, obviously, be executed. However, it is possible to survive an execution (it sounds weird but it can happen). If that happens and you only had one life sentence, you're free to go. If you have another, you go back to prison.
There's a difference between multiple life sentences and death penalty. And obviously if you multiply something (like a life sentence) times any number, it will affect how long the life sentence is.
What I mean is if you are sent to prison for one crime on a life sentence, then later you are found guilty of a different crime and are given the death, you lose the life sentence and are set free if you survive the execution. If you have another life sentence, you must continue serving it.
I wasn't even aware that Canadians could commit crimes.
They can? My beliefs have been shattered, where do I even go from here?
Must have not heard about the guy was a Justin Bieber imposter so he could get close to under aged girls and take them to his van.
True, but they're still Canadian so even if they get out they won't be all that threatening.
Which is what capital punishment should be placed in all states. So those motherfuckers don't have to brag about that shit.
It should be immediate. They're murderers, they're not respected. Or if they can't do that, they should be locked in a prison where they recieve no human contact at all.
Plus, it costs less money to kill a murderer rather than keeping it and having to take care of it.
They took someone's life away so we should show them how it is in return.
Also, you have to consider the fact that the defendant may actually be innocent but tried guilty. It wouldn't be fair to sentence him/her to death when there might be a change that said person's innocence could later be proven.
Just because one uses curse words does not make one cool. This is an illogical association of two traits.
... Exactly?
Oh Dennis
