Really? Look up some of the lyrics to Top 50s songs. A lot of it is just jargon. Back then, what we consider "classic rock/pop" WAS considered "just loud dance beats".

Songs today DO have meaning. You're just too focused on the ones that don't. Mumford and sons? Florence and the machine? That's some quality shit right there. Sinatras music, while catchy, doesn't seem to go any deeper than love songs that get extremely repetitive.
