I hate it when people think we were all cavemen UNTIL all of a sudden random people SUDDENLY decided to try these things. It was all gradual and it was all logical. It wasn't the modern normal idiot to invent all these brilliant things, it was actually those who studied them.

They used to blow smoke up people's bums if they'd been drowning to wake them up. I'd argue that mouth to mouth is a step up.
