-165 It's ridiculous that a kidnapped person who develops feelings for their kidnapper is said to have "Stockholm Syndrome." It's not some unnatural disease, it's learning that everyone is human, even the so-called monsters, and that they too deserve pity, amirite?

I don't think you are taking this seriously enough.

No! (This post may sound offensive, and i'm sorry, but your post offended me more) This is up there with denying evolution. Its either pants on head retarded, or its tolling. You need to learn what Stockholm syndrome is, and why the victims psychologically identify with their captors. Its usually not because the captor is just and noble, or has some shred of humanity, that shit only happens on t.v. To put it in the most watered down least accurate terms: A dog will either submit to the owner's will when violently beaten, or it will attack, both are acts of self preservation, stockholm syndrome is somewhat of a derivation of these things, but at the same time its so much more. There are so many layers at work here I can't do this justice, and don't Wikipedia it either, that's not real in depth knowledge, please take an in depth course at the submissive nature of victims. as for pity... no, just no...

Don't you mean a "freudian slip". du du dun tsh.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I know that is not what a freudian slip is in reality, but i couldn't resist. I'm sorry for that terrible pun.

You're right, it's not an unnatural disease. It's a condition. It's not like a virus that can spread...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Diseases don't have to be spreadable...

I think you mean "contagious".

So; I don't disagree with such violent passion as our friend Qeez here, and I think I know what you mean. They do deserve pity. While you might misunderstand the true nature of Stockholm syndrome these "monsters" are still people. Pity, however, is not Stockholm Syndrome. I cannot claim to be an expert on it, but to the best of my understanding Stockholm goes far beyond just pity, it's a nearly infantile need for the captor. But even most monsters deserve pity. We're all human.

i concur, except i don't agree with the statement "deserve" i think we are humanly capable of giving them pity. But they don't "deserve" it. The term brings a sense of demanding entitlement, that i don't think they are entitled to. They do deserve a fair trial, but not our pity.
