+337 The Royal Wedding was really nice, but with the Middle Eastern revolts, the death of bin Laden and the Japan Earthquake, it shouldn't be considered the defining event of 2011, amirite?

The wedding itself was not the defining event, but the millions of people (estimated billions) who watched it choosing to watch the wedding so many people would say represents an outdated monarchy or idea may very will be.

I agree with you but I guess a lot of people were happy to see that there was something important going on in the world that wasn't depressing and sad and hard to deal with. It was happy thing, and it allowed the world to remember that not everything that's going on right now is bad. Plus who doesn't love weddings? It certainly wasn't the most important thing of 2011 but it was something that united a lot of the world in celebrating something that is happy. And I think that makes it at least a little bit important.

But it's definitely important, and should be considered one of the many defining events of 2012.
