Being politically correct dilutes words' meanings. Death, war, and sex become departure, conflict, and intercourse, amirite?

That's a very inconventional form of political correctness... I've never heard anybody suggest replacements for those words.

It's from a satirical article by a crippled woman, I forget her name, but she mentioned it and this came to mind.

If we didn't have political correctness, a black person would be a nigger, a Hispanic person would automatically be a Mexican, a gay person would be a faggot, etc.

We shouldn't put political correctness on important words like war, death, and sex, but you can't just go around shouting offensive terms because you can.

I disagree. They're only offensive because we make them out to be. I see them as terms for people who are truly the lowest of the low in that specific group.

There are black people, then there are niggers.
There are gay people, then there are faggots.

Political correctness is only deserving of those who have earned it.

No, it doesn't make sense to say some black people are niggers and some aren't. The term was used to refer to slaves. Of all things, it refers to blind obedience and basically a piece of property. It doesn't refer to stupidity or anything degrading. The only reason the term is offensive if used by a white person is because in that context they would be calling them a slave, or subordinate to whites.

Terms change over time. It's a derogatory term and I use it to "derogatize" the disrespectful, stupid group of people in a minority.

Besides, there are no slaves anymore. If they're going to throw the word "nigger" around then so should I, otherwise /that's/ racist. That's why I encourage my friends to use the word faggot if they want to, because I use it a lot.

It only means something if you make it mean something.

Why not just call them disrespectful and stupid? Why is it necessary to bring in a racial slur just because of their minority status?

Because who cares?

The world isn't sacred. People aren't sacred. And words are words.

If they're seriously offended from words, they need to get over it.

I just think it's stupid to have a special set of derogatory words for a certain group of people. If words are just words, then we should be able to freely call a white person a nigger and a straight person a faggot. If those words evolved to just become an insult, then it should be able to applied to everyone. If that were the case, then I would have nothing against it.

That group of people suck and they deserve a low leveled word for their shittiness.

I call white people niggers and straight people faggots. I use them jokingly. But people use them as insults, too.

Shitty white people = shitty black people

Stupid = stupid

nigger = nigger.

I don't have any reason to believe a group of black people deserve a worse name than a group of white people.

@AdonisBatheus i don't even see why you care about my word usage.

I dunno, because I wouldn't want someone with your mindset calling me a politically incorrect term. Call yourself a nigger or faggot as much as you want, but I would rather have more universal insults thrown at me. Personal choice I suppose.

Getting over it applies to every insult on this world. Using politically incorrect terms isn't always for insults. If a person regarded a black person as a nigger simply because they've always thought that's what they were called, that's politically incorrect. Sometimes it's an insult and sometimes it's legitimate ignorance.

@AdonisBatheus I've never heard of a single person who believed that.

Exactly. Because society's politically correct. Before that, I'm sure that's what blacks were referred to in the 1800s.

Proof or not, there are some people who would definitely get offended if you called them a fag/nigger, and if that were applicable to me I'd get offended too, just like with any other insult. If you don't get offended by those and the people around you don't get offended either, then go say whatever you want.

But I don't /care/ if they're offended. They need to get over it and that's what I tell them. I got over it. I mean it wasn't in a snap but it takes a couple months and it's for the better.

I don't have to do shit for other people. People getting offended is why things like gay marriage are outlawed. Because the poor Christians start crying "Jesus save us!" and point out that ONE BIBLE QUOTE.

No, it becomes a problem if I try to pass a law banning the usage of the word nigger. I would certainly not want to be around people who use those words, and that's absolutely okay. Just like if you're okay with dealing with other people reacting to your words, then you're free to say whatever. I'm all for personal decisions. You know what's best for yourself.

I have a feeling I'll attract some hatred for this but, how long can everyone go along trying not offending anyone? It's simply not possible. You cannot make everyone happy simultaneously, it can not be done. Let's say, for the sake of argument, I'm a racist and am offended greatly by the idea of you referring to a person with an excess of melanin as an African American, because I don't believe them deserving of such a title. Then you referring to said person as an African American you have offended me. What about the people who are offended just by another person's existence? "That man is a Jew I am offended by his every breath" for example. Most would say that because of this I'm wrong, I'm terrible. It does, however, make my point quite well, you can never avoid being offensive to everyone. The way to go is to not try at all. Offend all equally.

Saying that something is politically correct means that there is something wrong with it. If you see something wrong with calling someone a faggot, it means you think a faggot is a bad thing to be, which it doesn't have to be.

(Also I wouldn't say calling Hispanics Mexicans is politically incorrect so much as just plain incorrect, the same way calling all white people Brits would be stupid, but not POLITICALLY incorrect. But we may disagree on that.)

Learn a lesson from Dumbledore, guys! A name or a word has meaning if you want it too! Besides, coming from a halfer I openly call myself a chink or white trash if a situation calls it. What would I prefer, saying it first and letting others understand that I openly acknowledge the fact that I'm mixed, or have a jerk shout at me and think he's won?
