Really it depends how his family treat him. Some people, related to you or not, don't deserve your respect, that doesn't mean that you wouldn't be a good person in a relationship, which presumably is what you meant.

Not necessarily. Maybe he has family issues and is looking to you for comfort. It doesn't mean he's a bad person.
