GREATTTTTT way to get it stolen! Yeah, let's take daddy's brand new iPad to school!!! Then when it gets stolen the school says "We aren't responsible for stolen items!" There is going to be a lot of lawsuits with your school.
This is the future, people. Feel free to disagree with me, but just because you didn't have a lot of technology at a young age doesn't mean no one should. We as a people are always going to look for the most efficient way to do something, and that way is with computers, whether laptop or tablet. Why shouldn't they learn for a young age? I suppose the financial thing could be an issue, but a low memory or used iPad shouldn't burn too big a hole in anyone's pocket.
You can't let young children decide what they want to learn. It's the same principle that mandates they take math, science, English, etc. Yeah, there's a chance they'll never use it, but odds are it'll come in pretty damn handy.
My school's doing the same thing, but they're giving us the laptops. 5th grade and below have to keep theirs at school, and they're even letting the pre-schoolers use them. I like it, but it raised our tuition up by over a thousand dollars, which is pretty excessive.
In my school (its a highschool), you get an ipad for the whole year if youre in an AP class, i dont know if any one elses school has this but its pretty cool and usefull.
My school is making it so that every student, all one thousand of us, has a school-provided laptop. Personally I'd rather bring my macbook to school than use the shitty laptops we'er getting. But then again, I'm not a fifth grader.
God forbid they learn the old fashioned way with books.
But requiring grade 5s to have an iPad or laptop seems a bit excessive.

What if they can't afford it?
That's part of the issue. I bet a lot of kids won't be able to afford them.
Well if they can't afford it and the school requires it, in America, the school has to provide them.
Dafuq
Everyone will just play minecraft in class
better games than minecraft to play on a laptop
You go to a private school? I have a problem believing that this can occur in a public one.
Yeah. It's still pretty insane though.
That is truly sad, what could they possibly do with IPads and laptops?
Watch porn in class?
True..well, boys would, maybe some girls
Using technology in school is awesome, if it will benefit the students. What are they being taught in grade 5 that a laptop or iPad could be useful?

ya but the school requiring kids to bring them? that seems pretty excessive.
As anaverageboss said, if they add it to the curriculum, it'll just raise tuition. If you buy your own, at least it's yours.
but are they worth the cost? I don't think they are. if kids want to have them, let them buy it. don't mandate it
that's why they shouldn't do it
If they don't require them, then the school will just add to tuition. It's probably cheaper to get your own.
Why not? Ipads are incredibly effective as study tools.
so is the human brain.

I would be so happy if my school required me to bring a laptop in 5th grade, especially if all my textbooks were on it.

Well, only if the school doesn't supply them.

My school bought like, 50 iPads and we use them for class and stuff.
Thats AWESOME!
