+324 Why do we get shocked when we find out that elephants are afraid of mice? We're afraid of spiders and they're much smaller than us, amirite?

It's probably because mice are relatively harmless, while humans automatically assume every spider is poisonous.

Well elephants probably don't think that mice are harmless

I was saying the above comment in reply to the question "Why do we get shocked when...?" It's because we as humans know that mice are basically harmless, while, obviously, elephants don't.

Some people think rodents are very harmful. Rabies, them being there, something that makes it okay to whack them with a broom or set up death traps and poison everywhere

That's why I said "relatively harmless". Of course there's a risk of disease and infestation, but not much else I can think of off the top of my head.

`Relatively' Maybe they're afraid it'll get in its trunk.

I certainly don't assume every spider is poisonous, but I'm still scared of them.

Elephants aren't afraid of mice though.

You should know why elephants are afraid of mice. It's because they're afraid that the mice will go up their trunk.

It is really not shocking at all.

Yeah, but spiders are creepy-looking...With their eyes... Ew. I swear.
