+104 Limiting free speech for certain specific hate groups is unconstitutional, discriminatory, and should not be tolerated, even if the group whose speech would be limited stand for inhuman, intolerable, and despicable ideas like neo-nazism and racism, amirite?

THIS. As long as no threats are being made, everyone can voice their opinions no matter how crazy or evil they may seem.

As long as they're not violating anyone else's rights, there's nothing you can do about it. As fucked up as they are, it's their right to be fucked up.

if you tell them they are being intolerant then you are being intolerant of them.. so just tune them out :)

I agree. Just because they were raised to view things differently and have a different perspective, does not mean they should have their UNALIENABLE rights taken away.

How is it discrimination to say that people can't discriminate? It's not like some people would be allowed to say hateful things and other people wouldn't be.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Minority rights are important. Nobody has the power to pick and choose who can say what.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What do you mean "who can say what?" Everyone can say the same types of things. You make it sound like expecting people to treat others equally is the same as putting telescreens everywhere and torturing people for disagreeing with the government.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't expect all people to treat others equally. That's not the point; the point is that anyone can say what they want in a nonviolent fashion because taking away that right would be the first step towards your 1984 reference.

(I apologize for my original comment. I was misinformed.) Yes, if you give people the right to be free from discrimination, soon the government will monitor everything we do or say and hunt us down if they don't like it. Just like how if we legalize gay marriage, people will soon be marrying dogs. Or if we make it legal to kill in self-defense, soon we'll be allowed to kill people for giving us dirty looks. Or if we say you have to be 18 to get married, soon you will have to be 150 to get married. The law does not escalate like that. Laws are (or should be) judged by whether they are right or wrong, not by whether or not they bear a slight resemblance to a pre-existing law.

I feel like there should be a "#1984" in there

WBC...the most useless, disgusting people on the planet.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Compared to terrorist groups, they're loving and jolly people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Except that they condemn people who tried to kill terrorists so...

There's a thin line between hate speech and inciting hatred. Banning the latter really isn't as dangerous as most people think. The American government already has ways of getting round free speech to imprison people they don't like anyway.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, which is why private citizens should thwart the efforts of those people and the police look the other way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I believe in freedom of speech until you try to take away the freedom of another, which is what most hate groups try to do.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

but hate groups like BLM and antifa is ok right? your only against conservative (according to what leftist mob thinks) "extreme" groups should be banned right?
