If religious people can get a tattoo of a cross (or other religious symbols), I should be able to get "atheist" tattooed on myself without being tormented, amirite?
The way you phrased it made it seem like you thought you were stronger or better than theists because you do not get, for lack of a better word, help from God.
I'm not saying that was your intent, but I think that's why people though you were being an ass.
Please don't. People should really stop turning atheism into an organised 'religion'. Don't make up symbols. Don't create movements. Don't get tattoos.
Atheism is simply one day realizing that god doesn't exist, and then never thinking about it from that moment on.
Atheism isn't something you have on your mind 24/7. It just is. Like not playing football. You don't think about not playing football, you just don't play it.
You shouldn't get so sensitive about what people think of you. And it's because religion is based on faith and irrationality, so people understand when they do something irrational to represent their faith. Tattooing atheist on your body makes a mockery of the rationality atheists cherish, and makes you look like a bit of a tool
Sorry, I instantly substitute atheist with supremely arrogant. No, I consider those that get tattoos of crosses to have a lot of faith in the diety they believe in deemed 'God' and his teachings. Also, making this post made you a bit of a tool. I know you
OP is just asking for an opinion, perhaps out of curiosity in what the general public has to say, he never said he needed that opinion to make a decision
I know what she's asking. I also know she doesn't need anyones opinion to make a decision. I can see she has an idea of what she wants, and if she wants athiest tattoos then she should get them. Who am I or anyone else to judge. It's like someone saying " If Favveks can post cat pictures, why can't I?" ... Well there's no reason for them not to, if that's what they want. Same for her.
Yeah, atheists are SO MUCH BETTER than religious people. It's TOTALLY not annoying when they are condescending, because they're the smart ones in our society. It's perfectly alright for them to get to the point where they're actually more annoying than religious people, because let's face it, religious people are so goddamn dumb and if you believe in god then you hold automatically be shunned from society because of your ignorance.
Well it's a bit different isn't it? Having a cross is different to just having 'Christian' tattooed on you, but if you want that tattoo then go for it, haha.
I can't understand why anyone would torment you about it. They'd have to be a pretty big douche to do that, because it wouldn't be disrespectful in any way.
I don't really see how the two compare, however. If you're a strong Christian you might want a cross or other symbol of your faith permanently on you. But if you're atheist, you don't believe in God, so there's no spiritual connection. It'd be a bit like getting a 'vegetarian' tattoo.
But it's shaped who I am, and I think that's significant. Just like people who don't do drugs get straight-edge tattoos. It's a lifestyle, and it's important to me.
And I would be tormented because I live in the Bible belt in a mainly Baptist town (not saying all baptists are ignorant of others, because I have great friends who accept me) and I've been made of fun before because of my lack of belief.
It makes perfect sense. Here are some reasons:
1) to glorify God
2) to profess your faith
3) to physically represent that you belong to God
4) to represent the permanence of your faith
5) to make yourself more beautiful in your eyes
If they were a true Christian they wouldn't permenantly mark themselves. If I'm not mistaken that is in the bible to not to. I'm not against tattoos. I just said religious tattoos don't make sense to me.
People shouldn't be mean to you about it, but they probably will, so if for some reason someone wanted to get that tattooed (I understand that this post was a hypothetical situation), it would probably be a good idea to put this tattoo in a place such as on your foot or stomach, so that way you can cover it up if you want.
And my lack of religion means a lot to me. That's all there is to it, whether you disagree or not.
I'm proud of being atheist. I don't have to rely on ancient texts or a deity to guide my life.
That was probably the most pretentious and smart-ass way of answering ActionMan who obviously was just asking your view of it in a polite manner.
That was in no way pretentious or smart. I just replied in a no nonsense manner. If that's smart-ass, I've lost all hope or this community.

how is tattooing irrational?
I'm not a tool, and I'm tired of defending myself.
Not gonna lie. If you are some teenager who tattooed 'Atheist' on their body, you're a tool. It's no longer up for debate
I am a teenager, and I've been atheist for almost seven years now. I'm not a tool. And I clarified I AM NOT getting the word 'atheist' tattooed on me.
Do you consider those with crosses tattooed on themselves to be tools?
Don't call me a tool without actually knowing who I am.
Sorry, I instantly substitute atheist with supremely arrogant. No, I consider those that get tattoos of crosses to have a lot of faith in the diety they believe in deemed 'God' and his teachings. Also, making this post made you a bit of a tool. I know you
Why do you need to justify your actions by what other people do, or say for that matter. Do whatever you want.

And I wouldn't really get atheist tattooed in bold letters, but I want to get the atomic atheist symbol.

Makes perfect sense.
I never said I was better than you because I'm atheist. I never condemn people for having faith, so don't make assumptions about me.
I consider myself agnostic. But i wasn't assuming things. I was merely pointing out how silly certain people who commented above look.
Sorry I misunderstood. I really am.
It's okay :D
Good. :)

And I make this post, and I'm being tormented. Apparently I'm a douchey tool.
People are just too idiotic to grasp the concept of a hypothetical situation.
Thank you!!!
Personally I believe that religious tattoos don't make much sense.

No it doesn't.
Why is @VictoryAAC downvoted? OP is wrong, it states to NOT wear clothes of mixed fabrics.
Lmao, a tattoo saying "Atheist" sounds so douchey.
I clarified I wouldn't literally get 'atheist' tattooed on me, but a symbol.
But I am a dousche, I suppose.
