Yeah, that's a real issue for authors who rely on plot too much in their writing. In my opinion, prequels are the true test of an author's writing ability because they have to find a way to create suspense when their audience already knows the ending. Some of the best prequels focus on character development and allow you to see exactly where characters are coming from in the main series.

And some pretty horrific acting across the board. There was a full length novel of episode III that I thought was a lot better than the movie but I can't remember why.

It was because Star Wars epicness is based mostly on the pyrotechnics, and the ones in EP III sucked. The original trilogy at least had a decent story line.
