+158 It's kind of disconcerning that we are known by a number to the government, rather than a name. Amirite?

You're also known by your legal name. That's why government forms usually require that you input your name along with your SS# But I see what you're saying. Ultimately, all your personal info is contained behind a cold and impersonal line of alphanumerics.

I think this is the only comment I have ever seen by you that I understand, because you're always talkin all intelligent and stuff.

Considering there's millions, sometimes over a billion people under one one government, I'd be pretty damn impressed if they knew us all by name. And if a lot of people in the government know your name, it's probably not a good thing.

A system where your information is stored under your full name is practical only in the event that no two people on earth will ever share the same first and last name. If the government just kept on record that John Smith was on the TSA no-fly list, plenty of people would be forever banned from air travel.
