+177 You see ignorance more as weak and cowardly than as rational and defensive. amirite?

I see ignorance as more of a lack of understanding than ignoring what they're supposed to understand.

I don't see it as any of those things. How would it be weak and cowardly? It's not like a person can know everything there is to know. And just because they're ignorant doesn't mean they're trying to not learn about it. And sometimes, there are things I would rather be ignorant about. Like my mom 's sex life.

This post was created under the impression that ignorance is an action, not a passive state. If you know that something occurs, and you actively ignore the occurance, then that could be seen as cowardly because you are shielding your psyche from reality, or doing so could be seen as rational as you are limiting the amount of damage to your conscious state so you won't have to go through a mental break. I think being ignorant means you intentionally refuse to learn aboot something. For example, YOU would actively refuse to acknowledge (i.e. //ignore//) your mother's hot, nasty sex life as you cannot sustain that level of graphic imagery in which your mother is involved. I see stupidity as a passive state as stupidity generally stems from a lack of information, thus you would not know whether something should be ignored. However, I do see how, in the age of the internet, stupidity could seem like a choice as most information and knowledge can be discovered at the push of a button. In closing, I'd like to reiterate that I see //ignorant// as a synonym for //closed-minded//, which would imply an intent refusal to learn aboot a topic.

Thanks for clarifying, I agree completely when the person is actively trying to remain ignorant. Except about my mom's sex life. She doesn't have one >.> I'm adopted and she's a virgin in my mind.
