+136 Hufflepuff is probably only there so Hogwarts can take all the wizards without sticking them in a random house because they don't fit and they just bullcrapped the loyalty thing because all Gryffindors and Ravenclaws are also pretty loyal, amirite?

I agree with the first part, but not with the second. Not all Gryffindors and Ravenclaws are loyal - where'd you get that idea? For example - the daughter of Hufflepuff (the Grey Maiden).

Sorry I meant most. I think I forgot to save my edit

Well I think it's whatever their most recognizable trait is, anyway, because you can be clever and also pureblood/use any means to get what you want, etc.

Meh, close enough.

I disagree. I mean, there are exceptions for every house, but most of the students carry their House traits very well. For example, in Gryffindor, sure, Peter Pettigrew wasn't brave, but Harry, Ron, and Hermione sure were. In Ravenclaw, Cho Chang wasn't the brightest student, but Luna was (in her own special way). In Slytherin, Crabbe and Goyle weren't very ambitious (they mostly followed Draco around), but Snape and Malfoy were. And finally, in Hufflepuff, Ernie may not have been particularly loyal (he pretty much ditched Harry in Chamber of Secrets), but Tonks and Cedric were.

So really its just random who gets in different houses. Considering the fact that there are so many exceptions.

Thats what the Sorting Hat is for I guess. Tough job for a hat, he has to figure out which house could bring out the best in every student that walks into Hogwarts...and he doesn't even get paid for it!...or does he? Hm.

He gets paid by the scarf of sexual preference.

Your AVPM reference makes me happy. But anyways, I think which house the kid *wants* to be in is a big part of it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well then why are people in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff? And I'm glad that someone got that. I was afraid I was shooting in the dark.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ahaha, nope. xD I'm a huge Team Starkid fan. And it's funny you picked those two houses because I always wanted to be in Ravenclaw (because I value intelligence), but I found out through Pottermore than I'm a Hufflepuff. I was a bit saddened at first, but now I've got serious Badger pride. First of all, our house colors are awesome. Secondly, our mascot is a HONEY BADGER. And thirdly, I like being in the mis-matched group. I'm not sure why; I guess because there would be more diversity throughout all the Jigglypuffs, so you would meet people much different then yourself. (Should I be ashamed of putting so much thought into a fictional school?)

WTF honey badgers? Thats awesome! I guess people just don't really think of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff because they aren't the main focus of the story line. However, if it were real life I bet Hufflepuff would be the most popular because it would be filled with regular awesome kids. And no you aren't crazy, I do it too! When the hat sorted me into Slytherin I almost died of happiness!!

That's a relief. :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg A honey badger for a mascot is pretty badass.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's what I'm saying! But Honey Badger don't care.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It actually says in one of the books that Hufflepuff takes the students who don't fit into any of the other houses.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It also says they're kind and true, and particularly good finders. :|

I don't think this is true at all...personally I think Hufflepuffs are the most underestimated if anything (And no I am not a Hufflepuff on Pottermore) The Gyffindors and Ravenclaws have proven themselves in the books to be less loyal...Luna was picked on by other Ravenclaws and the Gryffindors got into numerous internal fights. Especially in Harry Potter's 5th year, when 75% of them chose to believe the media over their own housemate. Also it should be noted that Hufflepuffs are also Hardworking and Fair. That can't really be said about the other houses (Ravenclaw is hardworking as well, but I'm sure they can get snippy with each other about grades lol) And what gave you the impression that no Slytherins are loyal? Maybe not as loyal as the other houses...but they are certainly loyal to other Slytherins (As well as themselves, which I think people always assume to be a bad thing for some reason...) I'm sorry I wrote so much...I am a bit of a Harry Potterhead...
