Actually, they make this really weird barking/ screaming sound. Sometimes it sounds like something that has a hairball (but really loud), and other times it sounds like a cat screeching. Either way it's not too pleasant.

When growling, it's a cross between an owl and a cat. Screeching? Oh god. What that guy said. ^^^^

One time I spent my entire night terrified because I heard someone screaming bloody murder. But no one else in my family heard it, so I was convinced I'd just been the only witness to the brutal murder of my neighbor. Then the noise came again, and my mom heard it, too, and she told me it was just a fox. I felt stupid after that.

Nor humans. Nor giraffes. Really, the only animals that actually make a clear and specific sound (that most people know of) are cats, dogs and some birds.
