fair enough, the logo is not capitalized.
but the "Facebook" name should be nonetheless capitalized, and that's how it seems to be in every serious (or kind of) writings; Starting with Wikipedia, which is no absolute reference, but still a pretty good one.

I type it the way the creator puts it
if the creator puts a capital
I will put one
if the creator has a site called D3k3HHHh
I will capitalize and use lower case where they use it
simply because they decide what it's gonna look like

You are talking about the logo, they capitalize the name itself.
I just checked the login page, and the two occurrences of "facebook" are capitalized.
by Anonymous10 years ago
I only see it on the tab
by Anonymous10 years ago
try to logout and observe.
you can see it on mobile, at least.
by Anonymous10 years ago
I logged out
and it shows the whole thing as lowercase for the logo
and for the sentence
I think they capitalize only because you're supposed to capitalized the first word in a sentence
by Anonymous10 years ago
Of course the logo doesn't change. As for the word, it has a capital even when it's not the first word in the sentence.
I have : "Utilisez Facebook pour iPhone et [...]" (french).
I'm almost sure it's the same in English.

I'll give it to ya

The final word of the article was pretty much what I had in mind : proper noun, therefore capital.
I agree it's not as simple as that :
"iPhone" doesn't start with a capital, but at lest with the "P", it is nonetheless obvious that it's a proper noun...

yeah
that's why I said I'll give it to ya

Sure it's annoying, but let them make their stupid comment. The best thing to do is ignore them.
People like that don't understand the difference between formal and informal text. For writing an important paper, it's extremely important to have proper grammar and spelling. When trying to sound intelligent or attempting to persuade people to do something (basically anything where good communication is the key to get your point across), proper grammar and spelling are advised. But informal text between friends, like the majority of stuff posted on Facebook, it isn't really necessary to have perfect grammar and spelling.

I think being able to see the difference between formal and informal settings is crucial in maintaining good relationships.
