+241 It's a stupid move for a modern business to not accept cards and only take cash or check, amirite?

credit cards often hold up lines and the machines to accept them are expensive for small businesses.

Ok saigot, I was a cashier. Swiping a card takes infinitely less time than counting bills and coins or dear God.. writing checks. Pocket pie, the fee they pay is well worth the exponential increase in customers to the business

No business can mean, many things. But in the long run it's usually cost effective to take cards. Also your parents business is quite specialized so it's a little different.

Also cheap local restaurants. There's one nearby me that's a local favorite. No ones not gonna go there because they don't accept credit cards and it saves the restaurant money.

So you're saying it's stupid for a kid's lemonade stand not to take credit or debit cards? For some, temporary or small businesses (not just a lemonade stand) it's just not worth going through the trouble of dealing with credit card companies. I was a cashier and I could give change back //way// faster than I could **1)** remind every customer how to use the credit card machine, **2)** wait for the connection, **3)** remind the customer to press the accept button, and finally **4)** get them to sign the receipt. Checks are definitely the slowest, but if the cashier's good enough, cash is still better and faster.
