+125 Wanting something to be true doesn't make it true. Thinking something should be true doesn't make it true. Even believing something to be true doesn't make it true. We should all live our lives without anchoring ourselves to any preconceived notions of reality, amirite?

I fully agree with this post till the last part. The "truth" is, we all need some sort of worldview to anchor our lives to. Living as a total skeptic of everything you used to believe leaves you with no answers and no direction. Without belief in anything one way or the other, what can you really do but continue to float along toward your imminent death?

Agreed, to some extent. But my point is that we should not be so "anchored" that we cannot remove ourselves from that spot. It's fine to believe, as long as you accept that your belief is just might not be a universal truth. Belief is more than just thinking something is true. To keep sane, we do need to find some reason and make some assumptions (it's impossible not to), but you have remain open if something else comes along.

agree ^ our convictions should not be so firm as to not be challenged once in a while. Whether they are upheld or changed, they deserve to be thought about over and over again in a fair and objective way

I get the feeling that this post was directed at religion.

It was and it wasn't. I'm not an atheist, and I had politics in mind more when I thought of it. People always seem to think they know what is best, when I usually take the road of moderation and reluctance to take a strong stance. It may not always be the best choice, but to me, it seems the most logical.
