+177 You don't understand why bands do covers of songs if they're going to make it sound EXACTLY like the original. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Amyst had a great cover of Rolling in the Deep if anyone's interested

by Anonymous 11 years ago

They sound like they're drowning.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If by great, you mean they completely ruined it, then yes I agree.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

so you bitch about when the cover's the same because it's unoriginal, but when it's different it ruins the song. Yep, you're an idiot.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I didn't get the impression that she was bitching about anything. Anyway that would not make her an idiot.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If she doesn't like when it's the same or when it's different that would in fact make her an idiot.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just because she didn't like one cover where it's different? She didn't dislike it BECAUSE it was different, she disliked it because it was kind of bad.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

She said she doesn't UNDERSTAND it. Maybe she likes OTHER covers but not that one. I don't like that one either but that doesn't mean I don't like other covers by other people and on other songs.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It wasn't bad. You not enjoying it doesn't make it better or worse. If it was different to Adele's version which she should be okay with judging by her post which shows she doesn't like it when covers are too similar to the original.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well bad in my (& her, i guess) opinion. I thought it could be assumed that if I make a statement using a word like bad, I meant in my opinion. My fault. Should've clarified.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

She did not say she didn't like it. She said he didn't understand it. I don't enjoy it or Adele's version. But I can say that the artists who covered it are not very talented IN THAT SONG. I mean they might be great, butthe vocals were pretty terrible. That's just my opinion. y

Linkin Park, Go Radio and Sungha Jung did covers also, except theirs weren't absolutely horrible to listen to.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

"If by great, you mean they completely ruined it, then yes I agree."I don't know about you but this would definitely seem like she didn't like the song. Also, we are not talking about quality. We are talking about similarity versus differences, which is what the post is about. She says that she does not like (or understand) why covers are unoriginal. So I gave an example of a cover that was different and she said it ruined the song. Is that right?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not liking covers that sound exactly the same doesn't mean that you automatically have to love every cover that isn't. If someone made a cover of it where all the instruments were replaced with people vomiting at different pitches would she not be allowed to dislike that just because she doesn't like covers that sound the same?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah I was saying she didnt like the fact that people cover songs and they sound the exact same. Y'know, I feel like I'm bashing you for your opinion. If you like that version, that's great. That's really all that matters. Not being sarcastic. I personally find both versions whiny.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@ninja no, but if someone pointed out that there was a different version of the song she can't say that the original song was ruined just because she doesn't enjoy the cover.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@notmuch: It's fine. I'm not a fan of either artist I just felt like it would be a good example of a more original cover.

The answer is simple: you must not be listening to the right bands.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The answer is simple: you don't understand the post

The answer is simple: We kill the batman. I know it's not word for word, but I had to follow the pattern

by Anonymous 11 years ago

jodie didn't watch Batman apparently. It was a joke, relax.

One of my favorite covers was A Skylit Drive's version of "Love The Way You Lie" for Punk Goes Pop 4. I haven't heard many that sound the exact same (though Sleeping With Siren's cover of "Iris" sounded pretty similar, I think-I only listened to it once...). I figure they probably just want it to sound like the original and end up not changing much/anything since I've also seen people get annoyed when it's too different.

Punk Goes Pop has some pretty great covers.

An online artist named Alex Day did a cover of the song "Lady Godiva" and made both his version and the original really popular. So in that case it was a win-win situation.

ALEX DAY FTW

Personally, I kind of hate when the song is different. Which is why I hate covers most of the time in the first place.
