All the different subgenres of rock music should be named after actual rocks. For instance, soft rock = limestone, punk rock = granite, glam rock = marble, etc etc. amirite?

Metal would be named after metals or ores. haematite or bauxite maybe.

That was my first thought, but it's sort of debatable whether or not metals can be called rocks. Obsidian is really more fitting to hard rock than metal (I know they're not quite the same thing, but I figured they were similar enough to be grouped together).

Dont't say that in public! I get shit for being unable to differentiate between different types of metal and you say it could be grouped with a type of rock?!
