-93 It's probably a good thing that Michael Phelps didn't win. Maybe now he'll get a reality check and realize he isn't invincible, amirite?

But don't feel bad for him, he's still a multi-millionaire from his Subway commercials. And the USA won that event anyways, so how can we complain?

I suppose we all felt he was, in a way, the best there is, probably because of all the media. That more than likely made him a tad cocky. It's just my opinion, and now I know it isn't everyone else's. Or, at least, eleven others ;)

He does not think he's invincible, I think Ryan Lotche is more cocky than he is actually. I think because of his victories in the 2008 Olympics, we expect him to be invincible.

Very good point. In all reality, though, everyone who competes in the Olympics at all should--without a doubt--have some bragging rights, now that I think about it. (Idk if you guys can tell, but I'm being extra-careful to not start an actual argument. Internet fights are always nasty... even if they're about swimming haha. I'm such a dork)

Why you gotta hate on Michael Phelps? He supports tons of charities and helps kids reach their dreams. He's really hands-on, too, it's not like he just throws money at them, he goes and meets the kids and everything.

Doesn't really look like hating to me :)

I feel like you're trying to say Michael Phelps is cocky and.or egotistical, which really couldn't be further from the truth. Even when that Tyler Clary guy was trash talking him on Twitter, he had nothing but positive things to say about the guy. I mean, Ryan Lochte is a thousand times more egotistical or what have you than Michael Phelps has ever seemed.

How is Lochte egotistical?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well, the whole putting in a diamond grill when you win a medal and bragging about how Phelps' fame is coming to end and now it's "your time" is kind of egotistical. He was basically saying he's going to be the new Michael Phelps.

Phelps actually seems like a pretty nice guy, IMO. And I'm Australian, so I'm not exactly his biggest fan lol.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Exactly, most of his most recent Tweets are congratulating other swimmers on their wins, even ones not from the U.S.

What wikipedia has to say about Phelp's physique is quite amusing: "Several physical attributes particularly suit Phelps to swimming: his long, thin torso offers low drag; his arms span 6 feet 7 inches (201 cm)—disproportionate to his height of 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm)—and act as long, propulsive paddles; his relatively short legs lower drag, and perhaps add the speed enhancement of a hydrofoil; his size-14 feet provide the effect of flippers; and his hypermobile ankles can extend beyond the pointe of a ballet dancer, enabling him to whip his feet as if they were fins for maximum thrust through the water."

And also the guy loses one race and we trash talk him like he's the worst swimmer ever. As sxephil said in one of his video, we just like to build celebrities up to tear them down.

I can't quite figure out why this is even a big deal. No athlete "deserves" to win. Someone beat the best, and that's cool. Stuff like that is part of why the Olympics are so awesome.
