That's completely ridiculous - you think the Beijing one was centered around the olympics? That thing was China China china China China cHIna china china
Is this the first Olympics you've watched?
Great Britain has an incredible history (most of which actually has relevance and bearing on the modern world), so of course that's something we're going to play on.
But for Athens, in focusing on the olympics, of course it focuses on itself, since it's the home of the olympics. Of course it's expected that a country celebrate itself, the "olympic" element comes from the showing of the rings, the parade of nations, the anthems and speeches, the rest is SUPPOSED to be a showcase of your own nation!
I never said anything about the Beijing Olympics. Though, I do agree that the Beijing Olympics was centered around China, but not any more than the London Olympics is around Great Britain. I also do think that Great Britain has an incredible history but I don't think it should be the main showcase of the opening ceremony. To be honest, I've only seen the 2004, 2008, and 2012 opening ceremonies so I'm not sure if that's how opening ceremonies is suppose to be. In my opinion the Athens opening ceremony was the best out of the three.
