Yeah because "that's so universal." Look at me! I live in Idaho! Let me just go practice surfing in my pool. I think it would be limited to a few countries that have access to good waves. Plus wouldn't you have to wait for the water to be just right to hit a nice wave? It wouldn't be equal for all participants. It would be very complicated is all I'm saying.

That's why we have technology and shit. Look at the olympics for example. They man made the kayak course.
And obviously not every country is going to participate in this sport, which would be normal. Plus common sense would tell you that the people chosen to represent each country would have regular access to waves.

It would still be imbalanced. How do you pick the waves? Giant waves, or the 2m high ones? Some countries have different shapes, some don't make tunnels and no part of a wave can be controlled. You'd need a gigantic area for a true surfing wave machine and nothing else will do. Shock waves don't arch at all, so you need wind. then you need fetch and a wide area to surf along the wave. Universal Studios theme park has a current wave machine, but that's only for fun, not real surfing.

This would mean the same country would have to host every single time because you need that specific bit of ocean for consistent waves, and even then people say the ocean has 'moods'.

It's no less a sport than anything else, but it's not something you can put in a competition like the Olympics.
