+85 I really don't see why people think shows like "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" glorify teenage pregnancy. If you think it looks like any of those girls are having an easy, glamorous time with raising a baby at such a young age, you're mistaken. amirite?

That's what I've always thought. A lot of people think it encourages teens to get pregnant and I'm like... yes. Showing the difficult life of a pregnant teen girl encourages teenagers to get pregnant. In the same way seeing someone who is now mentally disabled from texting and driving encourages me to text and drive.

Thank you for agreeing. I just got done watching teem mom and it didn't make me want to go out and have babies. The opposite happened.

You are both idiots. There was a girl on yahoo answers asking the world. "SHOULD I GO ON TEEN MOM OR 16 AND PREGNANT? I like teen mom better but 16 and pregnant gets more air time? Help quickly because I stopped taking the pill so my boyfriend is getting me pregnant tonight, and I don't want him to see this question and not have sex with me :((( but what show should I go on after I'm preggers with a kid?" People will do a lot to get famous

This is either trololololol or just a stupid teenager who would probably end up in a bad situation with or without a TV show. In any case, nothing is really being glorified.

No argument she was an idiot. But the point still stands, her actions were influenced by the allure of possible infamy that comes with teen pregnancy. She thinks the actions shes choosing are good life choices because of the show

It's as flimsy as the argument that having a gay character in a book "encourages" homosexuality. It's frickin' ridiculous.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It is. People are insane, I swear.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think they don't like it because people are stupid enough to do anything to get on TV.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sadly, they do. Anything gets you on TV nowadays.

Someone went through the comments on here and down voted every single one.

Well, there are a lot of teenage girls who'd do anything to be on TV, there are a lot of teenage girls who see someone struggling with something and decide they can do better, and the amount of people who go on that show gives the impression that teenage pregnancy is completely normal and there's not anything wrong with it.

I don't think it glorifies pregnancy, but it sends the message that being pregnant and having a child warrants screen time. I'm on the fence about this

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It doesn't glorify the pregnancy but the fame that comes with it. I've never actually seen the show though. I'd rather not watch people embarrass themselves and exploit their children.
