The Chinese went CRAZY over the Ye Shiwen doping thing, accusing western media of carrying out some kind of jealousy-driven witch hunt against her...but in fact...I don't think any newspaper or news report every actually said she WAS cheating, but just REPORTED that people "suspected" her of cheating. amirite?

That's other people's problem. The point of the post is that the Chinese went absolutely crazy calling western media a bunch of liars and jealous bastards, when they hadn't actually ACCUSED her of anything. That was what the Chinese were saying, that we were openly ACCUSING her. Even when a journalist asked her directly, the Chinese were up in arms. They just don't know how to think that way. They think that asking the question is an accusation, whereas we see it as giving her a chance to give a straight answer to a straight question. And she DID! With quite some panache I might add. The Chinese just aren't used to this idea. No one gets asked direct questions in this country

Don you think you have a little bit too much of generalization about Chinese people? How many Chinese people have you talked to? How many of those Chinese you have talked to are well educated? Did you ask enough Chinese people about how do they look at this problem, so you have enough data to support your assumption about Chinese people? I agree with your argument to certain extent, but you are really doing the similar thing here by not thinking through other idea. When you achieve something great and people suspect your achievement instead of telling congratulations, would you give an straight answer without thinking they are jealous? Maybe you can, but not everybody. Did Chinese go ABSOLUTELY crazy, or some Chinese went crazy or some Chinese media were not happy about western media's attitude?

You might have read my bio before assuming I'm basing this post on ANYTHING but evidence and personal experience. Did you see Weibo around that time? The wild accusations against western media were FLYING. As well as all the newspapers and broadcast media, which the vast majority of people here treat as gospel truth. As for your questions in the post. How many chinese people? Too many to count. I can only answer by asking 'how many might you encounter living in mainland China for 8 years?" How many are well educated? It's hard to know - well-educated or not doesn't always dictate the rationality of people's answers on certain reactions to certain issues with many Chinese. My senior colleagues are well-educated, and they were just as crazy as everyone else during the recent developments of the Diaoyu/Senkaku island disputes, spouting the same diatribe. In additoin - I'm interested to know where you think I may have made an unfair generalization about Chinese people? I hate to sound blunt, but I really think so far the assessment has been pretty accurate.
